Chocolate Chip Goo Bars
I was perusing the Prairie Pantry section of my blog and realized that I had not posted a recipe recently. Not long ago Farm Boy and I went to our neighbor’s for supper and I offered to bring dessert. In our part of the country a favorite dessert to bring is “bars”. Now some of you may not know what that is. Those of you readers from the Midwest are very well acquainted with the term “bars”. What ever you call them bars, pan cookies, brownies, this dessert is rich, chewy, and oh so satisfying!
The original name of the recipe was called Chocolate Chip Bars. Not a good description in Farm Boys opinion. He dubbed them ” Goo Bars” and our family has called them that ever since. So here it is. Goo Bars!
Chocolate Chip Goo Bars
Melt and cool:
2 cups chocolate chips (1 large package)
4 tbsp. butter
1 can sweetened condensed milk
Mix the following:
2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup butter
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
3 cups oatmeal
1 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. salt
Put 1/2 to 3/4 of 2nd mixture on bottom of 9″ x 13″ pan. Bake for 10 minutes at 325 degrees.
Then add 1st mixture and top with the rest of the 2nd mixture. Bake for 15 more minutes.
Let cool and cut into squares.
ENJOY!
