My New Red Pan
Mmm, Mmm, yummy! I just made a delicious omelet with my new favorite pan. Now I have never been one to really care about the latest kitchen gidgets or gadgets. But Farm Boy and I were wandering the aisles of a Wal-Mart super store and I decided we needed a new pan. Our granny-kids were coming to visit and we love to make big breakfasts when they come. It is tradition to have farm-shaped waffles when our family comes to visit the farm, but inevitably I never have enough pans to cook the sausages and eggs. I only have one that really works for that purpose. At least this is what my eldest daughter pointed out to me last time she was here. For Christmas my family decided to cut down on gift giving for the adults. We all decided to buy one gift for $10.00. Girls bought a girl gift, boys bought a gift appropriate for a male. My grandson is only 8 years old but he is a great little reader. We had him read a white elephant- “Night Before Christmas” game for the exchanging of the gifts. After all the passing and switching of the gifts occurred (and much laughter) we all opened our treasures. If we wanted to we could barter with someone else for their gift. Most everyone kept what they ended up with at the end of the game. I loved my gift. For several years I worked for a company called Herb’s Upholstery. At the time I worked there Herb’s son John had taken over the upholstery part of the business, but Herb still worked in the back room refinishing furniture. John was a friend of my brother’s and knew, that I knew, how to run a commercial sewing machine. One day he asked me if I wanted to come and work for him and do the sewing for the upholstery pieces. I said sure, as long as I could put my kids on the bus and be back home when they got off after school. He agreed. And so there I was working for Herb’s Upholstery.
