“Boho Prairie” Bird Chair
I found this sweet chair at a second hand store. I liked it’s curvy simple lines but was not diggin’ the shiny gold. Nope…not so much. (Plus there was a rip in the fabric, so it had to go.) But I had an idea! (Imagine a picture of a light bulb here.) In my fabric stash I had the perfect piece to cover the chair with. I had used it before and recently made pillows with it. For some reason this fabric makes me happy. Maybe it’s the color combination and the fat birdies. At any rate…I love it! When getting ready for The Prairie Chick Market I often coordinate a few pieces of furniture and accessories. As you can see, lately I am into black, gold, and purple. A very rich and warm combination. I am still adding purple into...

As always when re-purposing furniture there are surprises and learning curves along the way. Many times when working on a piece the process might have to be adjusted a tad to achieve the end result. Take this mid-century coffee table. It is well constructed, solid and clean lined. As always I was in such a hurry to get started on the piece that I forget to snap a before pic. Luckily I took one before I was too far along. For a long while I had planned to line the top of the table with vintage yard sticks and finish it off with a nice coat of poly but then, I decided I wanted to line it with beautiful paper and shiny upholstery tacks. I painted the table with Annie Sloan chalk paint in “Old White”. After giving it two coats and letting it dry, I...
Read MoreFrom This to That!
Remember the turquoise table and hutch? And the turquoise chair? Well the chair found a new home, the table found a new home, and the chair in front found a new home, and the turquoise lamp now lives at my neighbors house. But…the hutch on top of the table never sold. It is one awesome piece too! So instead of practically giving it away I re-purposed it again! What an idea, right? At one of our sales we set the hutch on top of this awesome vintage dining buffet for lack of a better place to put it. From there it went up into the attic and sat on a coffee table - of all things! Of course it was not meant to go together so Karla (the Other Chick Designs) and I hauled it back down to my workshop! I now had a plan for it. I remembered that it had looked...
Read MoreColor Your World
Okay people. Color is not bad. I love a soft, white, neutral room but when I try to decorate my house that way – I can’t do it! Somehow color creeps back in. I recently took a style diagnostic quiz and it said that my style was Classic with a touch of Boho. There was a little romantic and farmhouse style mixed in there as well. But always a touch of Boho was part of the equation. What does that mean anyway! Well here is what the Home Goods Stylescope said: Boho isn’t just carefree. She’s adventurous and passionate, loving color and new and unusual uses for things. She’s into the Revamp, Reuse, and Recycle, and she can’t get enough of foraging for a good deal while mixing and matching silk-and-knit textures and vibrant colors...

Hello friends! So sorry I have been MIA this fall. All of August/September I was getting ready for the fantastic “Junk Bonanza” in Shakopee, MN. Ever since I got back I have been shopping, picking, painting, arranging, decorating, and planning for our First Anniversary Prairie Chick Market, to be held on November 1, 2, & 3rd! It’s hard to believe that a year ago my friend Karla and I started cleaning out the little school house and painting furniture for our first sale. We even talked our significant others into doing a little carpentry work for us. Karla’s honey, Bob, built new steps into the attic for us and my sweetheart, Farm Boy, worked on sprucing up the old kitchen. And believe me both those things needed doing! A lot more needs...
Read MoreAnother Yellow Dresser
The last yellow dresser I painted was so popular that I did what any other normal, furniture painting freak would do…I made another one! At first I wanted to paint this dresser red, but the more I thought about it, the more I knew it had to be yellow. After all four people kept asking and emailing me about the last one - but they couldn’t quite make up their minds until one day one of them said, “I want that! I’ll take it!” And so she drove her pickup over, we loaded it in the back, and off the yellow dresser went to a new home! (I think the other three were a little disappointed.) So I just had to paint another dresser yellow!! Here is the before pic. Cute little dresser right? I loved how tall is was, the rope carving detail...
