Junk Bonanza Here I Come!

Junk Bonanza Here I Come!

On September 25th, 26th & 27th I will be part of a ‘junk’ phenomenon called the Junk Bonanza! Junk Bonanza takes place at Canterbury Downs (the Horse Racing track) in Shakopee, MN. Attendees can browse spectacular displays of exceptional and wonderfully priced vintage and antique wares from hand-picked vendors. No reproductions allowed! The Bonanza is a powerful junking and networking experience, and offers special activities, giveaways, prizes and more to extend the fun! (This excerpt was taken from “The History of the Junk Bonanza” off of their website) The first time Farm Boy and I attended the Junk Bonanza we were blown away! As my friend Susan says its a place where you can go and get ‘junk drunk’! It is almost...

Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint

Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint

I am so excited to announce that The Prairie Chick Market is now a Certified Retailer for Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint! I am having so much fun experimenting with all the colors and different finishes that can be achieved with Milk Paint.. I recently attended an advanced painting workshop with Laura at The Iron Stone Nest. Laura is the Regional Midwest trainer for MMS Milk Paint. We mixed and painted, and mixed and painted some more until we were confident in working with Milk Paint and it’s unique properties. Laura was a great teacher and we were all so inspired by her space and her classroom/workshop. Be sure to check out her Facebook page as well as The Ironstone Nest blog. You will be inspired too. So now that I have all this knowledge, I...

Our ‘Country Living’ Party

Our ‘Country Living’ Party

If you have followed my ramblings for any length of time, you may know that for years I have wanted to light up my big maple tree and have a dinner party underneath it. Well we finally did it! And when I say we I mean we! It took Farm boy, myself, our two daughters,     our son-in-law, my dear friend Rachel (who took most of these photos) and her son Parker, my dear sister Patty, our special friend Nate, and our grandkids, to get the place looking ship-shape and sparkling for the occasion! Our 35th wedding anniversary to be exact!!   “All you need to do is, mow the lawn, and light up the tree.” I said to Farm Boy. And with a little help, he did! Once the tables were set,     the flowers picked,  the food set out, and...

Kisses for Hunter

Kisses for Hunter

Thirteen years ago, Farm Boy and I were really hurting. The girls were off on their own. One newly married, and one living in Japan. We had always planned on a big family but it was not meant to be. We had our two girls. Then miscarriage after miscarriage happened. I quit counting after we lost the two boys. Sadness and anxiety ensued. But after awhile things got better. We were busy with our girls, busy with horses, animals, hobbies, school events, church, and busy with life. The years flew by quickly. The girls grew up and as all children eventually do – they left home. We were excited for them and for the next stage of their lives to begin. But it was an adjustment. I think mostly because of the circumstances of our lives at the time. The girls were gone,...

What’s New at the Market, a Chalkboard Wall, and the Green Giant!

What’s New at the Market, a Chalkboard Wall, and the Green Giant!

Here’s what’s new at The Prairie Chick Market! Antiques, vintage gems, re-purposed and freshly painted furniture, along with a few new, and handmade, home decor items mixed in. All waiting until the right person happens along to give them a new home. I seem to go in color spurts when I paint and collect. Look at this great hutch that we use for display at the store. I recently purchased a beautiful collection of vintage Milk-Glass. It’s gorgeous when paired with silver and taupe. It’s also reasonably priced, which makes it a fun and affordable item to start collecting. Not only do we have pieces that will fit into a sophisticated color pallet, we also have unique, colorful pieces to show off your personality. This green dresser is...

A ‘Spring’ (and summer) Photo Shoot with a ‘Spring’er Spaniel

A ‘Spring’ (and summer) Photo Shoot with a ‘Spring’er Spaniel

Because of the fumes and dust, I often do a lot of sanding and painting of my furniture pieces outside, when the weather permits. Our animals love this. The horses will invariably wander over to graze the fence next to the house out of curiosity, but soon go back to focusing on eating, and swishing flies with their tails. The dogs, however, want to be as close to the action as possible. I call them the peanut gallery. (Where did that term come from anyway?)  Currently there are five dogs at my house. Three are ours and two of them are with us short term. Needless to say it can get pretty rambunctious. When it is nice out I also like to do photo shoots of whatever I am working on for the Prairie Chick Market. Inevitably, after I have begun shooting, the...

DIY Colorful Fabric Banners

DIY Colorful Fabric Banners

This project was so easy and fun. I can not claim this as my own idea. I saw it somewhere…Pinterest, on another blog, in a magazine…somewhere! I so want to give credit, where credit, is due. If you are the person who came up with this lovely, and easy idea, please let me know . And I will roll out the red carpet, clang the bells and whistles, shout from the highest rooftop, that it was indeed you, who came up with this idea first! Okay? Girl Scout’s word of honor! This is what you need: Packet of quilt squares Packet of Bias tape – double fold Pinking shears thread Cut squares into triangles using a pinking shears. Pin into the fold of bias tape.   Continue pinning triangles until you have the desired banner length. I usually just...
