The Yellow Dresser

The Yellow Dresser

When my niece Ashely was about three years old  my husband would tease her about the fact that she couldn’t say the word yellow. At the time she dearly wanted a yellow umbrella. Of course she couldn’t say the words and it came out  as ” lellow umbrellella”. I have been in a “lellow” mood lately. while getting ready for the spring Prairie Chick Market I wanted to paint something yellow. Yellow is such a happy and warm color. I picked up this lovely dresser from a friend of mine. I loved the lines and the original hardware. (I had already sanded the top when I took this picture.) I had several ideas in mind for the dresser but in the end went with my first original thought, which was to paint it yellow. The three year old...

French Blue Desk

French Blue Desk

I found a cute waterfall desk at the Salvation Army. Unfortunately one day in a deleting frenzy I accidentally deleted any of the before pictures of this desk. It was brown and chipped and in rough shape. I didn’t have a clear vision of what I wanted to do with it but I knew I wanted to do something different and fun. After sanding, then priming, I painted the desk a pale blue color. After letting it cure for a couple of days I used painters tape to mark off the top of the dresser to make the stripes.   Then I applied a darker shade of blue on the drawer fronts and the insets on the sides.  I spray painted the hardware white. Here is a shot of the top where a stencil detail was added. This will make a sweet desk in any little girl’s room. Who...

Another Lamp Shade Re-Do

Another Lamp Shade Re-Do

I purchased this really cool Burlap lampshade at a thrift store awhile back. It is huge! My girlfriend Laura carried it around and was going to purchase it and then put it back. I immediately snatched it up! Well…actually she told me I could have it.  She’s nice that way. The lampshade sat in my shop for a few months. Then Laura invited me over to her house for a craft night. I took the lampshade, a stencil, some fabric paint markers, and my appetite. (Laura always has plenty of snacks on hand.) I like that about her. That and the fact that she let me have the lampshade. I started by stenciling this lovely pattern onto the shade. It was a little challenging because of the bumpy texture of the burlap but I think it turned out beautifully. Everyone...

It’s Girl Scout Cookie Time!

It’s Girl Scout Cookie Time!

Some of you know that I teach Zumba. I also work at Curves once in awhile when they need me. It works out pretty well. Especially if I work the shift before my” Zumba on the Circuit” class starts. This was the case a couple of weeks ago. I was working at Curves one day and for some reason the topic of Girl Scout Cookies came up. I was lamenting the fact that because I live in the country no little girls knock on my door to sell me cookies. The gals who were working out all had their Thin Mints, Samoas, and Trefoils in their homes. Ironic right. Here we all were working out and discussing Girl Scout Cookies! This really isn’t the point of my story though. Enter Korissa. A mom of a little Girl Scout. She came to workout over her noon hour toting a...

Birthday Side Tables – Before and After

Birthday Side Tables – Before and After

I am so pleased with how these side tables turned out. Here they are in all their warm, “buttery”,  glory. For awhile now I have been looking for matching side tables for my eldest daughter. She often jokes that she has an innate need for balance and symmetry in her home. I knew I would have to find tables that would meet her expectations. Before Christmas I came across a pair of end tables on Craigslist that were perfect. I emailed the seller and waited for a reply. And waited, and waited. I almost gave up hope of hearing back from this mysterious person. Then I got a reply. The tables were still available. When did I want to pick them up? I called the number. As I was talking to the man it became clear that the tables he was talking about, and the...
